Fujitsu-III WiMAX JV Begins Operations in Taiwan
August 08, 2008
Established as a mobile WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) joint venture between Fujitsu's former LSI (Large Scale Integrated Circuit) business unit Fujitsu Microelectronics and Taiwan's III (Institute for Information Industry), FMPI (Fujitsu Global Mobile Platform Inc.) announced on August 4 that it has commenced operations in Taiwan, according to a press release by Fujitsu Microelectronics.

Services based on the mobile WiMAX platform are slated for commercialization in Taiwan, Japan, and the United States starting from around August 2009. FMPI was established with the aim to develop WiMAX-related software and help Taiwanese ODMs (Original Design Manufacturers) shorten the delivery of WiMAX products to their clients worldwide.
